This example was sold and distributed by Osborn & Alexander of San Francisco, Cal. with identifying original name tag mounted. rack & pinion steering, double drive, friction disc brake, large flange hubs. Drive Wheels are 50", front wheel 18", width 36". Length is 63". Saddle has been recovered. Overall a very fine example with original finish. This is a unique opportunity to add a museum quality cycle to your collection. Steering rod linkage broken (easily repaired).

EDWARD PENFIELD original poster for COLLIERS ~ OUT-DOOR NUMBER ~ APRIL 27, 1901. Penfield was one of America's most important illustrators of all time. Appears to be in good condition otherwise. Retains correct saddles, brakes and brake hardware, linkages, drive trains etc. Steering head stamped "54063-36", according to an 1888 catalog this is "The Singer Tandem", it appears to have had 36" side wheels and a 28" front wheel.

Rare C. 1870's Ice Velocipede. This rare possibly one of a kind bicycle was built for ice riding. Has wooden spoked wheel with metal rim (rim has four studs for traction). Metal pan seat, brake assembly, wooden tiller (broken). Appears to be a well thought out purpose made machine. On unusual platform base with wrought iron runners. 50" Wheel. Fair condition. Provenance: Given to (and deacessioned from) a museum (private) by Alan Jones C. 1928. Used on the Passaic River N.J. and said to be built by Mr. Sanford after whom Sanford Ave. in Trenton N.J. was named. One of the most unusual 19th c. bicycle inventions we have offered.
