Description: 13DG1-1 PAINTING
Watercolor on paper backed by board signed lower right R. Lorenz, MIR-(o? or a period). The watercolor remains in fair to good unclean condition in an old carved period frame. The painting needs cleaning and slight conservation. An examination report by noted conservator who works for major west coast museums, James R. Druseck states, “That the media is all the same, that it appears most likely to be watercolor, and that solubility tests discount the printing inks.” The image measures 18” x 28.5” showing 2 cowboys who just buried their amigo with his sad dog standing by his grave marker and is similar to a work by Richard Lorenz entitled “The Last Farewell” which sold recently at Christie’s for over $300,000. Artists often did more than one painting on the same subject or used different medias and this also may have been a study in watercolor before the oil also which is a common practice among artists. This particular watercolor was willed to a well-known Washington state Western and collectible dealer Evy Morgan by old-time collector James Pierce of Tucson, Arizona who collected Western art, Indian art, Western arms and artifacts since shortly after WWII. Est.: $5,000-$10,000.
