Description: Civil War "H&P" Percussion Conversion Rifle Musket

. Cal. 69. NSN. 42" bbl. This is as fine an 1862 dated Hewes & Phillips conversion of an 1838 dated US Springfield musket you can find. This conversion utilized cutting the back of the flint bbl. and replacing with new percussion breech and removing flint mechanism from lock and adding percussion hammer, rifling bbl. and adding rear sight. Added markings are the date "1862" stamped on top of bbl. and "H&P" stamped on bolster. Balance of markings are from the original flint configuration. This gun is in beautiful condition, possibly unfired, and it would be difficult to upgrade. CONDITION: metal surfaces overall are gray/bright with scattered areas of staining and light pitting. Markings are crisp and all easily discerned, including the original markings and inspector marks from when gun was still flintlock. (01-5547/JS97). ANTIQUE. $1500-2500.
