VIN Explosion

Top  Previous  Next

Auction Flex can explode VIN (Vehicle Identification Numbers) into your inventory by simply scanning the VIN barcode as found in the door jamb of most cars built after 1985, or entering that VIN manually into Auction Flex.

To use our VIN explosion tools you will need to complete our VIN agreement as provided by Auction Flex. After that agreement has been completed and processed by Auction Flex use the steps below to set up and use the Auction Flex VIN explosion tools.

1. Create an inventory type for your vehicles.

Go to the Inventory drop down menu at the top of the software and select Inventory Type Maintenance. inventory_vin
Hit the New button new at the bottom of the Inventory Maintenance Screen.
Enter the name of the new Inventory Type in the Description field at the upper left. In this case we are creating an Inventory Type of Titled Vehicle.
Check the VIN Decode button found on the upper right of that screen, then hit the question button for a list of available data fields.
Enter the desired available fields into your User Defined Fields. Label one field VIN. If needed also set your Auto Lead sort orders in the order boxes to the right. Click the following link for further instructions on using Auto Leads and User Defined Fields. User Defined Fields (UDF's)
You can set the tax status for your inventory type if tax exempt, or if using DMV Tax Rates based on Buyer Origin use the following link; DMV Tax Rates

2. Create an inventory #.

From a Consignment Order create an inventory number, or if listing several cars, multiple inventory numbers by adding inventory, selecting your Titled Vehicle Inventory Type. If using barcodes, print the inventory labels with barcodes.
Tag your items with the inventory tags. If using the Wireless Handheld select option 2.

Handheld Screen

Enter the Inventory # (in this case the inventory number on the tag would be 16359) and scan the VIN barcode found on the drivers side door jamb. After hitting enter the handheld will prompt you to enter a new inventory number and VIN.

The information you just scanned will now be in your Auction Flex inventory.

Add your mileage and any additional descriptions of the vehicle, select images from your file and add this vehicle to your auction.

If you are not using the Wireless Handheld with an integrated barcode scanner, you can still use our VIN service by simply entering the VIN into the VIN field on that piece of inventory. The computer you are entering the VIN's through, or hosting the handheld that is entering VINs must be connected to the internet for contact with an Auction Flex server. Please contact the staff at Auction Flex for pricing.
