Performing System Maintenance

Top  Previous  Next

Overview

The System Maintenance form allows you to perform system tasks to keep Auction Flex running smoothly.  Auction Flex will provide you with friendly, weekly reminders that look like this:

6_system maintenance rerminder

If or when you see this reminder, please follow its instructions and follow the system maintenance procedures.  Go to your Miscellaneous->System Maintenance and run your backup, and data utilities.  Doing this on a daily basis would not be considered excessive and is highly recommended after large daily data inputs.

Data Backup Notes

The backup button will create a single .Zip file of all your data. This utility does NOT backup your images. If you want to back up your images you will need to do that manually to a CD or other large backup medium of your choice.

Data Backup Guidelines

Remember that you are only as safe as your last backup.

Considerations for backing up to removable media (floppies, zip, CD, etc.)
Keep multiple offsite copies - this ensures that in the event of a catastrophe (flood, fire, etc.) at one location, the other is likely safe.
Information is valuable - keep backup media physically secure.
Considerations for backing up to your hard drive.
Backing up data to your hard drive is convenient but does not allow for the failure of your hard drive.
Make backups to your hard drive so long as you're prepared to recreate the data entered since your last removable media backup.

1. Backup & Restore

The backup button will compress all the files in the data folder into a .zip file and save the .zip file to a location of your choosing (hard drive, memory stick, etc.)
The restore button will restore a backup .zip file over the current data.

2. Data Utilities

Before performing any data utility task you should always perform a backup.

Always perform the 3 data utility tasks in the order they are presented (from top to bottom).
Make sure all forms (including the "Easy Navigator") are closed before they are ran.
